New Delhi: Whoever thought pillow fighting was child's play, did not see this new combat sport coming. Pillow Fighting Championship (PFC) first edition was played on January 29 in Florida.
The 24 contenders included 16 males and 8 women who were mostly MMA fighters. In the new sport, they mixed both mixed martial arts & specially made pillows.
"It's not something where you sit there and laugh and feathers are flying," Steve Williams, CEO of PFC, told Reuters.
"It's serious. It's hardcore swinging with specialised pillows."

The bracket styled tournament was introduced as a pay-per-view tournament. Williams hopes that the sport taps a new audience because so many people grew up bashing their siblings, friends & parents making pillow fighting more relatable.
At the end of the championship, Istela Nunes emerged as the women’s winner, after defeating Kendahl Voelker. On the men’s side, Hauley Tillman defeated Marcus Brimage to win the top spot. Both the winner got a cash prize of 5,000 US dollars and a belt.
Though Twitteratis did find the whole idea a bit amusing:
