Rubina Francis Bronze Medal: India's journey at Paris Paralympic Games 2024 is off to a memorable start, as within a span of 3 days, the nation has recorded 5 medal victories, which consists of one historic gold medal as well. Day 2 produced 4 medals for India, and much was expected from the Indian contingent on Day 3, and Rubina Francis did not disappoint, as she has now won the Bronze medal in the Women's 10m Air Pistol SH1 event.
With that, India's tally rises to 5 and the Indian para shooter has grabbed India's 4th medal from the medal (with the exceptional medal coming from Preethi Pal in Women's 100m - T35 event in Para Athletics).

So, who exactly is Rubina Francis? Well, the 25-year-old belongs to the Jabalpur region in Madhya Pradesh. Fondly called as 'Palak' by her parents, the athlete was scouted via a talent search by Gun for Glory Shooting Academy. The Madhya Pradesh-based athlete completed her education from GS College of Coomerce and Economics in Nagpur and currently trains at Madhya Pradesh Shooting Academy of India.
"I wanted to do something else besides study in school. Gun for Glory Academy came to my school to advertise shooting and I told my father I wanted to do this. So I registered myself and I got selected. That is how the interest developed. My parents backed me and that is how I took up shooting. The journey started from there," said Rubina, as reported by Olympics citing First Post.
Her hero is her coach Subhash Rana and her father, and looking upon themselves, she took up the sport at 15, and has never looked back ever since. The Indian para shooter made her debut in 2017 World Cup and fast forwarding to 2024, she now stands as a World Champion and a Paralympic Bronze medalist.
