Vinesh Phogat has left the Olympics Games Village ahead of the final decision on her appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for a silver medal. Phogat made history as the first Indian wrestler to reach an Olympic final in the 50 kg Wrestling event at the Parsi Olympics 2024. However, she was disqualified from the gold medal match against the eventual winner, Sarah Hildebrandt of the USA, due to being 100 grams overweight during the morning weigh-in.
Now, Phogat is likely to arrive in India on Tuesday morning at the Delhi airport. In a video and some photos shared by IANS on their X (formerly Twitter) handle, a dejected-looking Phogat was seen outside the Village with her luggage, most likely getting ready to return home.

Phogat Faces An Unfortunate End At Paris 2024 Despite Great Run
Phogat began her campaign with a win over the reigning Olympic champion and World No. 1 Yui Susaki of Japan in the pre-quarterfinals and advanced to the quarterfinals. In the quarters, she secured a 7-5 win against Ukraine's Oksana Livach, earning a spot in the semifinal, where she defeated Yusneylys Guzman 5-0. Unfortunately, she faced a disqualification ahead of the finals.
After her disqualification from the Olympics, Vinesh decided to retire from wrestling. However, it remains uncertain whether the 29-year-old Indian wrestler will reconsider her retirement if the CAS rules in her favour and awards her a silver medal.
After her disqualification, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) lodged a complaint with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding Phogat's disqualification from the Games. In response, Phogat appealed to the CAS, seeking a joint silver medal. The CAS accepted her appeal, and the sports tribunal has scheduled the verdict on Phogat's disqualification for August 13.
