Vinesh Phogat's Family In Despair After Learning The News Of Disqualification From The Final
The family of Vinesh Phogat did not take the news well, and deemed it a complete mistreatment of the wrestler, as his uncle (Mahavir Phogat) stated that the wrestlers, inspite of being overweight by 50-100 grams, are "still allowed to play".
Upon learning the news:
"I have nothing to say. The entire country expected a gold medal. It was day full of happiness for us. From the moment we woke up, we had already made special arrangements for the massive event in the evening. I received the news this morning, around 9-10 AM and had nothing to say... (getting emotional while saying this)," said Mahavir Phogat, Vinesh Phogat's uncle.
On people calling to console and confirm if the news was right:
"No, no one called me except Bajrang (Bajrang Punia). He said "Papa aisi aisi baat ho gayi.." (English translation: Describing him the series of events happened with Vinesh Phogat in the morning). Even Sangeeta (Sangeeta Phogat) started crying. I just don't know anything (said it with utter sadness)."
On Rules & Regulations, And Federation's Action Ahead:
"Rules are there, whosoever has made the rules, they are there. If a wrestler is found 50-100 grams overweight they are usually allowed to play. All the officials will sit and they will discuss the matter. They will see to it."
On What Holds For The Future:
I will ask the people of the country not to despair, one day she will bring a medal for sure. I'll prepare her for the next Olympics. Also, I am starting Sangeeta's training as well, you will see both the wrestlers compete for India in 2028 (Los Angeles Olympics 2028)."
