Paris Olympics 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called up Olympic broze medallist shooter Sarabjot Singh and congratulated him for his feat at the Paris Olympic Games.
The PM can be heard extending his "heartiest congratulations" to Singh. "You have taken India to great heights. Your hardwork has paid off. Congratulate Manu on my behalf," PM Modi told the shooter, who won the medal with his fellow shooter Manu Bhaker.
Sarabjot Singh replied saying that he would work harder and ensure that he wins a gold medal for India next time.
Both Singh and Manu Bhaker had finished third in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, winning a bronze medal at the ongoing Paris Games. They clinched bronze by defeating South Korea's Lee Wonoho and Oh Yeh Jin by 16-10 at the Chaterauroux Shooting Centre.
On Sunday, Bhaker scripted history as she bagged the bronze medal in the women's 10m air pistol event at the same shooting centre.
Bhaker became the first Indian woman in the last two decades to reach the Olympic shooting final. Suma Shirur had reached the shooting final last in 2004 in Athens.
Earlier, PM Modi had congratulated Bhaker and Singh in a post on X, following their historic win.
"Our shooters continue to make us proud! Congratulations to Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh for winning the Bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event at the Olympics. Both of them have shown great skills and teamwork. India is incredibly delighted," he tweeted.
President Droupadi Murmu also congratulated the duo on X, saying,"Congratulations to Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh for winning bronze medal for India in the mixed team 10 metre air pistol event for shooting! Manu Bhaker has created history, becoming the first woman shooter from India to win two medals in the same Olympic games. She has done us immensely proud. I wish her and Sarabjot Singh many more laurels in the future."
