India faced another blow in women's wrestling as Reetika Hooda was defeated by top-seeded Aiperi Medet Kyzy of Kyrgyzstan in the quarterfinal of the women's 76 kg freestyle wrestling event at the Paris Olympics 2024  on August 10 (Saturday). This loss marks the end of India’s campaign at the Paris Olympics 2024.


After Reetika initially took the lead with a point from passivity in the first period, Medet Kyzy made a strong comeback in the second round. Kyzy put Reetika on the defensive, earning a point through passivity. Since Kyzy scored the last point of the match, she was awarded the victory based on countback.

Vinesh Phogat's CAS Appeal Verdict Delayed Further


Coming to another major news from the day, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has postponed its decision on Vinesh Phogat's appeal, extending the deadline to August 11, 2024. Vinesh, who was disqualified from the gold medal bout in the women's 50kg wrestling event at the Paris Olympics 2024 due to being overweight, is seeking a joint-silver medal. The final verdict on her appeal will now be announced by 6:00 PM on August 11.


“The ad hoc division of CAS has extended time till 6-00 p.m. on August 11, 2024, for the Sole Abritator Hon. Dr Annabelle Bennett in the Vinesh Phogat vs. United World Wrestling & the International Olympic Committee to issue a decision,” reads an official International Olympics Committee (IOC) statement.
