India’s Bid For 2036 Olympics: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has formally submitted a Letter Of Intent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to host the Summer Games in 2036. Although an official confirmation is still awaited, an IANS report confirmed the development citing sources. As claimed in the report, the letter was submitted on October 1.

In a Press Information Bureau (PIB) release dated July 22, 2024, India's proposal to host the 2036 Olympics was announced. Notabaly, the National Olympic Committees (NOCs), which is IOA in case of India, are mandated to initiate a dialogue with the Future Host Commission (FHC), which becomes a Continous Dialogue and ultimately a targeted Dialogue with the select NOCs.




Once the FHC completes finishes this process, it is the IOC Executive Board which holds an election where the members vote to decide who should be awarded the hosting rights for the concerned Olmpic Games.


India To Bid For Inclusion Of Indigenous Sports


If India indeed gets the hosting rights of the 2036 Olympics, they will also get to bid for inclusion of sports like Chess, Cricket among others. The inclusion of any sport discipline in the Olympic Games is decided by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The IOC has prescribed that a sport discipline must be governed by the International Federation which followes the rules of the Olympic charter.

For instance, the International Cricket Concil (ICC), which governs cricket played a pivotal role in helping cricket get included in the 2028 Olympics where T20 cricket is set to be included in the Summer Games.
