LIVE SCORE | INDIA vs ENGLAND | 3rd TEST | DAY 4

MOHALI

FULL SCORECARD

Man of the Match, Ravindra Jadeja says that he is very happy with his performance. Admits that he was giving himself time and knew that if stayed he can convert those into big runs. Mentions that he was looking to play 40-50 balls. About the ton being missed he says that he was not going to risk against off-spinner, he took one against leg-spinner and unfortunately it didn't work out. Confesses that next time he is in the 90s he will play normal cricket shots. Adds that it was a batting wicket so he had to bowl the right lines and lengths, keep the runs down and was happy to contribute. Victorious skipper, Virat Kohli acknowledges that none of the pitches have been turners and getting England all out for 280 on the first day was brilliant. Adds that the lower order chipped in at the right time, Parthiv Patel finished the game professionally. Admits that they were motivated by the cheers when England had won the toss, they executed their plans well and came out triumphs. Adds that the lower order contributing is a proud achievement, especially in Test cricket. Mentions that Ashwin is a champion, Jadeja is in the top 10. Confesses it was great to see Jayant come in and ask for the field he wanted. Credits Shami and Umesh for bowling well, rushing the batsmen. Calls it a pleasing feeling as a captain to see Indian bowlers bounce out batsmen. Opines that Shami's injury was a blessing in disguise (earlier in the year), the bowler is now a lot more fitter and in control of his game. Ends by saying that there no worries for now, feels bad for Karun who got out run out on debut. Hopes to keep things simple and enjoy the break. England skipper, Alastair Cook says that it was a good toss to win and you don't win many games scoring 280. Remembers that last time they toured they won keeping India under 300. Confesses that they had India in trouble at 200 for 6 in the game but the lower order got India through. Calls it frustrating to not make 400 batting first. Adds that Stokes is a brilliant player and his presence allows them to have the right balance. Credits Hameed for showing great fight. Applauds India for their effort. Hopes that they can make the break count and turn things around. Informs that Hameed has been ruled out of the Test series. Chasing a small total, India lost Vijay early but Parthiv Patel's brisk fifty kept India in control as they sealed the game and took an unassailable 2-0 lead. They will be delighted with the way they have played so far, stepping up whenever put under any pressure. Their batting has been a bit hot and cold but their all-rounders have risen to the occasion every single time. Ashwin and Jadeja shared a 97-run stand to take the game beyond England's reach, while Jayant's fifty ensured a handy 134-run lead. The Indian bowlers then led by Ashwin ran through the England batting line-up reducing them to 78 for 4 by stumps on day 3. The visitors were always playing catch up from there and despite fifties by Joe Root and the youngster Haseeb Hameed, England could only set a target of 103 runs. Shami was impressive for India too as he bowled with a lot of venom. (AP Photo/Altaf Qadri) England have been outplayed yet again in this series and they will have their work cut out to comeback in this series. They had their moments in the game but failed to make them count. They won a vital toss but failed to make it count, scoring just 283 thanks to Bairstow's 89. They then came back with the ball to reduce the hosts to 204/6 but lost the plot again. Gareth Batty to Parthiv Patel, FOUR! Floated around off, Patel makes some room, stands in his crease and hoists the ball over the cover region for a boundary. The ball races away towards the boundary and INDIA WIN BY 8 WICKETS AND 2-0 LEAD IN THE 5-MATCH SERIES. India win third Test match by 8 wickets.  #Wicket Adil Rashid to Cheteshwar Pujara, OUT! Pitched on the leg side and Pujara goes to sweep it on the mid-wicket region but Rashid got the better of him as Pujara top edged it to Root who was standing at short fine leg. Kohli walks in the middle. The crowd is excited. 5th Test fifty for Parthiv Patel! 13.3 overs: Adil Rashid to Parthiv Patel, SIX! BOOM! Patel steps down the track for a handsome hit for a maximum over the mid on boundary. That was a glorious hit. 9 overs: India 42/1. Parthiv Patel 24(21) Cheteshwar Pujara 14(25) So India despite losing the wicket of Murali Vijay look in firm control of the game, needing further 70 more runs to take a 2-0 lead in the series. England began with short ball tactics and priced out the wicket of Vijay and will look to put more pressure on India to induce some bad shots. Parthiv and Pujara have looked positive and played their shots and India will want them to continue the good work and seal the game. Do join us in a while for the third session. TEA BREAK 6 overs: India 33/1. Parthiv Patel 16(11) Cheteshwar Pujara 13(17) 3.6 overs: Chris Woakes to Parthiv Patel, FOUR! That's a glorious square cut which is really very well timed and it races away towards the boundary. That's a quick start from Parthiv. 3.4 overs: Chris Woakes to Parthiv Patel, FOUR! A short delivery which stays a bit low and Parthiv drags it towards the mid-wicket boundary for an unorthodox looking shot. CHETESHWAR PUJARA is the new man in. India have lost their first wicket. India will have to chase down a target of 103 runs to win the 3rd test and take a lead of 2-0 in the 5 match series.
Root and Buttler were batting well till the latter threw it away with a rash shot. Root got his half century but could not carry on long so no tons in this test and was dismissed by a fantastic catch in the slips by Rahane. Hameed who came in late due to his injury kept fighting till he could as he ran away through partners on the other end.
So that ends England's effort with the bat fors this Test! They started up with some really good batting yesterday at the start till Ashwin shattered through the defence of Cook, they looked shaky after that as they lost 3 quick wickets till the end of the day. 90.2 overs: Ravichandran Ashwin to Haseeb Hameed, OUT! RUN OUT TO END PROCEEDINGS! Fuller on middle, Hameed heaves it towards mid-wicket and is always looking for the second. They complete the first early, Jadeja fields the ball and fires the throw at the non-striker's end. Ashwin fields the ball and deflects it onto the stumps as Anderson has to stretch to complete the second. The third umpire is referred and Anderson is caught short of the crease. Hameed stays unbeaten and he gets congratulated by the Indian players. INDIA NEED 103 RUNS TO WIN! 89.6 overs: Mohammed Shami to Haseeb Hameed, Fuller on middle, Hameed clips it through mid-wicket for a couple of runs. The lead is now 100 runs. 2nd Test fifty for Haseeb Hameed! Ravichandran Ashwin to Haseeb Hameed, SIX! Hameed has timed it to perfection and gets it over the ropes for a maximum. The fielder on mid wicket was a bare spectator there.

#WICKET Ravindra Jadeja to Gareth Batty, OUT! JADEJA STRIKES FIRST UP! Bowls it outside off, keeps a touch low, Batty defends it with his bat and pad together and is rapped on the pads. The players appeal and the umpire upholds it. Batty comes down to have a chat but decides against taking the review. Good call too, it looked fairly close too. England still trail by 56 runs.
Game time! JOE ROOT and GARETH BATTY are out in the middle. How will they approach the game today? Will they go for the attack or shut shop to bat time as well? They have a tough task on hand. India begin with UMESH YADAV. A wide slip in place for him. Here we go... Seems like the match is a far cry from the England perspective as they have a deficit of 56 runs and have already lost 4 wickets. Root and Buttler are the batsman who could make the match a bit more interesting with Hameed to follow. They will have to have practically a very good game out there to make life tough for the Indians who are having a merry time out there on the field. Hello everyone and welcome to the coverage of Day 4 of the third Test between India and England at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali. It's been a mixed Test match for England as whenever they were looking good with the bat or the ball, the purple patch was disrupted by the spin trio who have been the guys to watch out for this match.
