LIVE SCORE | INDIA vs ENGLAND | 1st TEST | DAY 4
RAJKOT
Superb opening partnership for England to neutralize whatever pressure that could have mounted on them. It means that they have ended the day on a high. Although they had gained a lead of 49, a few early strikes could have dented them. India's marathon batting effort had meant that England were the only side that could lose with the little time left in the match. Cook and Hameed put all those doubts to rest with a solid partnership, the debutant notching up his maiden fifty as well. The duo have countered everything that the Indians have thrown at them and have looked largely untroubled.
That's 50 for Hameed. Maiden fifty for the debutant

8 overs: England 31/0. Alastair Cook 12(25), Haseeb Hameed 18(23)
5 overs: England 15/0. Alastair Cook 8(14), Haseeb Hameed 6(14)
2 overs: England 6/0. Alastair Cook 1(6), Haseeb Hameed 4(6)
2nd Innings
Rashid was the most successful bowler for England while Woakes did extremely well despite not getting a wicket. Stokes was also effective with his reverse swing as the visiting bowlers didn't allow India's batsmen to run away with the game. The lower order contribution from the hosts could be vital, particularly the last wicket stand which added 29. With the track deteriorating, seems like only England can lose from here. Join us in a while for the final session.
After more than 160 overs, England have finally managed to wrap up the Indian innings to get a lead of 49. Centuries from Pujara and Vijay set things up yesterday for the hosts although the tourists did turn things around a bit by reducing India from 318/2 to 361/6. Kohli got a start but got out in weird circumstances as the visitors looked like taking control of the match. However, Ashwin's brilliant fifty led a lower order fightback to cut down England's lead drastically.
161.6 overs: Moeen Ali to Ravichandran Ashwin, OUT! INDIA HAVE BEEN BOWLED OUT FOR 488! Tosses it up on middle, Ashwin strikes it neatly to deep mid-wicket but is unfortunate to have found Ansari at deep mid-wicket. He is under it and makes no mistake. An enterprising innings by Ashwin comes to an end. England lead by 49 runs!
THAT WILL BE TEA ON DAY 4!

143.6 overs: Moeen Ali to Wriddhiman Saha, OUT! ALI HAS HIS REVENGE! Slider outside off, skids through as Saha goes back for the cut. Gets a faint edge that is well taken by Bairstow. Up goes the umpire's finger as the appeal for caught behind is upheld.
142 overs: India 419/6. R Ashwin 35(68), Wriddhiman Saha 30(78)
Rashid finally got an extended spell in the match and was easily the best England bowler in this session. Stokes continued to impress with his ability to get reverse at sharp pace. The track has started to spin and grip considerably which isn't a surprise as it's the fourth day of the match. The deficit is still 126 as both teams continue to wrestle. Joins in a while for the second session.
This session - 28 overs, 92 runs, 2 wickets. Moderate session for both sides. The visitors started the first hour well with the big wickets of Rahane and Kohli, the latter being a bit unfortunate as he got out hit wicket. The score read 361/6 at the Indian captain's dismissal and England were sensing an opportunity to run through the lower order. However, Saha and Ashwin have stitched a useful unbroken half century stand to keep the tourists at bay.
135 overs: India 408/6. R Ashwin 27(45), Wriddhiman Saha 28(59)
131.1 overs: Adil Rashid to Wriddhiman Saha, SIX! Slow through the air an on off, Saha skips down the track and hits it cleanly to send it sailing over the long off fence. Great shot that! 400 up for India.
130 overs: India 393/6. R Ashwin 22(35), Wriddhiman Saha 18(39)
125 overs: India 376/6. R Ashwin 18(26), Wriddhiman Saha 8(18)
120 overs: India 361/6. R Ashwin 11(11), Wriddhiman Saha 0(3)
119.3 overs: Adil Rashid to Virat Kohli, OUT! YES HE IS! What a breakthrough for England! Flatter on middle and leg, Kohli goes for the pull but goes right back in the process. He does have this tendency to deep in the crease and his left foot makes contact the stumps to dislodge the bails. Appeal from England replays confirm that the Indian skipper is out hit wicket.
RAVICHANDRAN ASHWIN is the next man in. India are in a spot of bother. Can he stitch a crucial partnership along with the skipper?
116.5 overs: Zafar Ansari to Ajinkya Rahane, OUT! ANSARI STRIKES! Slider on middle and off, not that short but Rahane wants to pull it away. Misses the line and the ball disturbs the timber. Poor shot selection from Ajinkya and he only has himself to blame. A really big wicket this for England and they know it.
115 overs: India 339/4. Virat Kohli 36(86), Ajinkya Rahane 10(23)
110 overs: India 325/4. Virat Kohli 30(72), Ajinkya Rahane 2(7)
109 overs: India 320/4. Virat Kohli 26(70), Ajinkya Rahane 1(3)
We are ready to kick start the first session. The players and umpires walk out in the middle. KOHLI to continue his batting and RAHANE comes to the crease. ANSARI to continue his over. Here we go...
The ball is in the court of the visitors at the moment but the pitch hasn't shown much signs of breaking up. They need to make good use of the crease angles and rough patches to keep the batsmen on their toes. Will the Indian middle and lower middle order close in the gap or even take some sort of lead or will the tourists close the lid on the hosts and take a firm griphold? It promises to be an eventful day of Test cricket
Hello and a warm welcome on Day 4 of the first Test between India and England in Rajkot. With Pujara and Vijay both departing in the final session yesterday after playing eye catching knocks, it has left the match delicately poised. A lot depends on the heroic pair of Kohli and Rahane to counter the English attack and weave together a substantial partnership. On the other hand, the English side would like to see the back of both soon.
