Kidami Srikanth has made India proud, says PM Modi
New Delhi [India], June 25 (ANI): While addressing his 33rd edition of his monthly radio broadcast of `Mann Ki Baat`, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday heaped praise on Kidambi Srikanth, saying the ace Indian shuttler has made the country proud with his terrific victories in the recent times.
"Kidambi Srikanth has made the nation proud by winning the Indonesia Open title. I congratulate him and his coach for achieving the feat," said Prime Minister Modi.
The Prime Minister further said he believes that the Indian youth is now actively taking part in sports, adding that the children shouldn't be discouraged from following a career in sports.
Earlier this month, Srikanth came out with a spectacular performance as he defeated unseeded Kazumasa Sakai of Japan in straight games to win his maiden men's singles title of the Indonesia Super Series Premier badminton tournament in Jakarta.
However, the former world number three did not stop there and continued his rich vein of form in the Australian Open Super Series as well as he fended off China's Chen Long 22-20, 21-16 in the finals to clinch his fourth Super Series title on Sunday.
Meanwhile, this was Srikanth's third Super Series Premier title as he has also emerged champion at the 2014 China Open Super Series Premier. (ANI)
