Yuzvendra Chahal was at his absolute best in the Indian Premier League (IPL) contest between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens Stadiun in Kolkata. After RR captain won the toss and chose to field first, the RR bowlers and fielders were up to the task and put on a brilliant show keeping the KKR down to 149/8. However, it was Yuzvendra Chahal who was the pick of the bowlers as he finished with figures of 4/25 and broke a massive IPL record.
Chahal became the leading wicket-taker in the history of the competition. He went past the legendary Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Dwyane Bravo who had 183 wickets, a tally which he had got to in 161 matches. However, the leg-spinner's feat becomes all the more commendable as he has surpassed Bravo in just his 143rd match.
Number two on this list among active players is Mumbai Indians' Piyush Chawla who has been in great form this season after missing out last year with no franchise bidding for him. While Chawla currently has 174 wickets, Amit Mishra and Ravichandran Ashwin follow him on the list of the leading wicket-takers in the IPL with 172 and 171 wickets respectively. The last time when an Indian was leading the all-time wickets tally in the competition was way back in 2013 and it was Amit Mishra who had achieved the feat back then.
Following Chahal's record-breaking effort, it was a record-breaking knock from RR's opener Yashasvi Jaiswal who hit the fastest IPL fifty ever, reaching to the landmark off just 13 balls. The previous record was jointly hit by KL Rahul and Pat Cummins who had both got to the half-century in 14 deliveries. Interestingly, Cummins had got there while playing for KKR but this time around it was the KKR bowlers who were on the receiving end of a masterclass from the 21-year-old.
