The inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League is all set to commence in just three days time with the first match set to be played between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Before the start of the competition, the tickets for the matches have gone on sale.
In a major development, the tournament, comprising of 22 fixtures, has allowed free entry for women and girls. Meanwhile, for men and boys and tickets are being sold at a nominal price of Rs 100 and 400 as per details available on the ticketing website and app Bookmyshow.
Earlier, the BCCI had also adopted a similar strategy for the home T20I series between India Women and Australia Women. Such an initiative wants to have an increased stadium attendance for women's matches.
Meanwhile, the official handle of the Women's Premier League has announced that the opening ceremony of the T20 competition will feature performances from Kriti Sanon, AP Dhillon and Kiara Advani. The curtain raising programme to the first-ever WPL match will commence at 05:30 pm with the first ball set to be bowled at 07:30 pm.
Entry for spectators will commence from 04 pm onwards.
For fans wondering where to watch WPL 2023 matches, the matches will be broadcasted live on the Sports 18 Network. Meanwhile, the live streaming of the WPL matches will be available on Jio Cinema for free.
Recently, Australia's Beth Mooney was appointed the captain of the Gujarat Giants franchise with India's spin bowling all-rounder Sneh Rana announced as her deputy.
"I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead Gujarat Giants in the historic Women's Premier League's inaugural edition in 2023," said Mooney in a statement released by the franchise.
Meanwhile, Rana too said that she was looking forward to the responsibility of being the vice-captain of the team.
