While there was a lot of drama in the reverse fixture of the Indian Premier League (IPL) face-off between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) which was played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore earlier in the season with DC's Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly apparently avoiding shaking hands with RCB's Virat Kohli after the match, when the two teams met in Delhi on Saturday, the two former India captains shook hands.
Notably, a video showing Kohli's animated celebration after taking a catch near the DC dugout in that game in Bangalore, had linked it to the fact that Ganguly was sitting near the fence. Some even speculated that Kohli was pumped up after scoring a fifty in that match since Ganguly was in the opposition dugout. Later, a video had surfaced in which Ganguly, it seemed, dodged Kohli during the customary post match handshake ritual.
The duo have a history that dates back to the days when Ganguly was the BCCI President and Kohli was the India skipper. Notably, the right-handed batter had never resigned from the post of the ODI captain but BCCI announced Rohit Sharma as the skpper of the white-ball formats going forward.
Later, Kohli had contradicted the Board's claim that they had told him to reconsider his decision to quit captaincy and the fact that they were looking at just one-ball captain in limited-overs cricket. The videos from the RCB-DC game added more fuel to this burning issue in Indian cricket. Later, it was reported that the two even unfollowed each other on Instagram.
However, after round 2 of the face-off between these two sides in IPL 2023, Kohli and Ganguly did shake hands which suggests all might not be that bad between the two greats of Indian cricket.
Here is the video of Kohli and Ganguly shaking hands:
While Bangalore had emerged victorious in the earlier game which was played at their home, on Saturday, DC dominated RCB to pull of a 7-wicket win at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
