Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, there is set to be a mega-auction, an event which the cricketing world is looking forward to. Amid the excitement for the IPL 2025 auction, it is being speculated that Rohit Sharma could be released by his franchise Mumbai Indians (MI). Rohit was removed as the captain before IPL 2024 being replaced by Hardik Pandya at the helm of affairs at MI.

Ever since Rohit was removed as the skipper of a team that he had led to five titles, it is being expected that he could be back in the auction for this year. If The Hitman indeed enters the auction pool, there is likely to be a massive bidding war for India's T20 World Cup-winning skipper. And now a former Team India coach and current Punjab Kings (PBKS) official has dropped major hint on whether or not the franchise will be interested in roping Rohit in if he come into the auction.

PBKS Could Searching For Captaincy Options

Meanwhile, PBKS be searching for captaincy options at this stage. While their designated captain was Shikhar Dhawan in IPL 2024, with him sustaining an injury early on it was Sam Curran who led the team in his absence. However, it is likely that PBKS bring in a more experienced leader and with Rohit in the mix, he could be an automatic choice for a captain for a franchise which gets him on board.
