Rinku Singh is the Man of the Moment in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter pulled off an incredible feat in the match against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. With 29 needed off 6 balls, almost everyone had written KKR off. But the man that mattered in the middle still had the belief.
In his post match reaction after hitting five sixes off the final five balls of the match to seal the game for his team, Rinku said how he wasn't thinking much but backed himself to get the result. He also shared what the non-striker Umesh Yadav told him during that dramatic final over.
"I had belief that I can do this. Rana bhai said to keep belief and to bat till the end, then we will see what happens. (On the single) I was just trying to hit sixes. (Umesh) Bhaiya was asking me not to think much and just play the ball. I was not thinking a lot, was just reacting to the ball. It kept coming out of the middle, I had belief and it came off in the end," he said after he was declared the Player of the Match for his stupendous innings that will become part of the IPL folkore.
Rinku's effort implied that Rashid Khan's hat-trick, the first one of IPL 2023, went in vain. The leg-spinner who was captaining the side with Hardik unwell, scalped the wickets of Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Shardul Thakur off successive balls to complete his hat-trick. At this point in the 17th over, it seemed like GT would come out on top in the final over but that wasn't to be against a determined Rinku who showed enormous calm under pressure and ultimately remained unbeaten on 48 off 21 with the help of a boundary and 6 sixes.
