After facing a brutal onslaught from young RCB openers Devdutt Padikkal (45-ball 74) and Joshua Philippe (24-ball 33), Suryakumar Yadav scored a heroic fifty to power table-toppers Mumbai Indians to a 5-wicket win and help the four-time IPL champions put the strongest foot forward to seal a play-off berth with 16 points. Just when it seemed Mumbai might lose the game after losing wickets of Kishan, De Kock and Tiwary, Yadav went berserk and showed his class to get the 2 valuable points for his team.
Mumbai Indians openers ensured their team gets a dreamy start in the chase as they scored over 50 runs in the first six overs. RCB pulled themselves back into the game at the end of powerplay with Mohammed Siraj removing in-form Quinton de Kock in the 6th over and then Chahal got Kishan in the 8th over.
Chris Morris started the proceedings for Bangalore. Chasing 165 for the win, Ishan Kishan and Quinto de Kock came out in the middle to open the innings for Mumbai. Mohammed Siraj drew first blood for Royal Challengers Bangalore by cleaning up in-form opener Quinton de Kock for 18. The South African opener timed the shot well but failed to hit in the gap and gave a catch to Gurkeerat in the deep.

Suryakumar Yadav joined Ishan Kishan after De Kock's cheap dismissal. Opener Kishan looked solid and held one end strongly to get his team past 50 in the 8th over. However, lethal leggie Yuzvendra Chahal, as he does so often, struck in his very first of his spell, to depart well-set Ishan Kishan for 25. The MI opener stepped out to go big but holed out to Morris in the deep.
Mumbai Indians now needed a good partnership to pull themselves back into the game. Suryakumar Yadav broke the shackles by hitting a few aggressive strokes. With this, MI looked to out on some more pressure on RCB bowlers. Halfway through the chase, MI managed to get 70 runs on the board for the loss of De Kock and Kishan.
Siraj got his second of the night, courtesy a stunning catch by Padikkal to send Tiwary (5) back to the dugout. Chahal picked up his second wicket as Krunal (10) too failed to connect with the big shot.
Hardik Pandya joined Yadav with six wickets in hand with 48 runs required off 30 balls. With the required run-rate under control, Yadav and Pandya were in complete control of the match now and their exploit in the death overs powered Mumbai Indians to a 5-wicket win at Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Mumbai Indians were completely dominated by the RCB opening pair as they failed to get a breakthrough inside the powerplay. However, MI bowlers bowled well in the middle overs to pick quick wickets (4 wickets for just 7 runs) and restrict RCB to 164/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
