Punjab Kings vs Lucknow Super Giants IPL 2023 match Highlights: An all-round performance from Lucknow Super Giants powered them to an emphatic 56-run win over Punjab Kings in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match at Mohali's Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium on Friday (April 28). The fate of PBKS vs LSG IPL match was almost sealed after 1st innings. Chasing 258 for the win, Punjab were bowled out for 201 runs in 19.5 overs. Lucknow's Yash Thakur and Naveen-ul-Haq shared 7 wickets between them. LSG with this win have moved to second position in IPL 2023 Points table with 10 points.
Earlier, Punjab Kings won the toss and invited Lucknow Super Giants to bat first. An absolute carnage from Kyle Mayers (54 runs off 24 balls) and Marcus Stoinis (72 runs off 40 balls) on a belter of pitch powered Lucknow Super Giants to a mammoth 257 for five -- second highest total in the history of Indian Premier League -- against a profligate Punjab Kings. The other important contributions which helped Lucknow Super Giants set up this massive target on board came from Ayush Badoni (43 off 24) and Nicholas Pooran (45 off 19).
Lucknow fell just six runs short of surpassing Royal Challengers Bangalore in the elite list. 263 by RCB, achieved by the franchise back in 2013, still remains the highest ever total in IPL history when Chris Gayle produced a batting masterclass of epic 175-run knock.
Apart from Rahul Chahar, all other six Punjab Kings bowlers conceded over 10 runs per over. Arshdeep Singh gave away 54 runs in four overs and Kagiso Rabada was hammered for 52 runs in four overs although he ended up taking two wickets.
Despite being dropped on first ball of the game, K L Rahul (12 off 9) failed to deliver yet again, even on a pitch that offered ideal batting conditions. Kayle Mayers then hit seven fours and four sixes before getting dismissed inside the Powerplay. After Mayers fell, Stoinis and Badoni played some breathtaking strokes to stage a solid fightback, share an 89-run stand off only 47 balls to maintain the momentum.
Lucknow were so good in the death overs as they collected 73 runs off the last 30 balls.
