Chennai Super Kings (CSK) senior batter Ambati Rayudu took to Twitter to put an end to speculations and media reports claiming that his so called 'cryptic tweet' about ups and downs in life was in reply to ex-India skipper Sunil Gavaskar’s remarks of players being unable to get going from the start, coming in as impact substitutes.

On Thursday (April 28), Chennai Super Kings' three-match winning streak ended after losing against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. One of the CSK batters who failed to perform was veteran Ambati Rayudu, who once again played the match as an impact substitute and yet again failed to get going, getting dismissed for a 2-ball duck. So far in 8 IPL 2023 matches, Rayudu has scored 83 runs for CSK. Sunil Gavaskar, while doing commentary during CSK vs RR IPL 2023 match, talked about how impact substitutions have been coming out to bat without success.

"You got to field. You can't just come out to bat and start hitting the ball. You can't do that. We have seen that with Prithvi Shaw. He has just been coming out to bat without success. No fielding, no scoring. Rayudu is out for a second-ball duck," Gavaskar said on commentary on Star Sports.

A day later, Rayudu shared a cryptic tweet.

He posted: "In life and sport ups and downs are a constant part. We need to be positive and keeping working hard and things will turn around.. results are not always a measure of our effort. So always keeping smiling and enjoy the process."

Reacting to reports of his tweet being in response to Sunil Gavaskar's comments, Chennai Super Kings star Ambati Rayudu himself cleared the air on Twitter itself.

He said: “What nonsense… my tweet has nothing to do with the great mr Gavaskars comments.. his opinions are well respected and in regards to my fielding . A player doesn’t decide if he wants to field or not.”

Chennai Super Kings are currently on third position in IPL 2023 Points Table after losing to Rajasthan Royals by 32 runs on Thursday. They will go up against Punjab Kings in IPL 2023 on Sunday (April 30).
