MI Retentions List: Mumbai Indians (MI), led by Hardik Pandya, were the worst-performing team in the Indian Premier League season 2024 as they became the first team to get eliminated in the tournament. Now, with the mega auction set to take place ahead of the IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians would look to put the past to rest and put together their best-possible team in hopes of clinching their record sixth IPL title.

IPL Governing Council (GC) announced the new retention rules for the mega auction, expected to take place later this year. The new IPL regulations will allow each IPL team to retain up to six players using the regular retention method and the Right to Match (RTM) card option. Additionally, the 'Uncapped Player' rule has returned, permitting retired Indian players or those who haven't played for India or held a BCCI contract in the past five years to participate as uncapped players.

As the excitement around the IPL 2025 mega auction builds up amongst fans and cricket enthusiasts, let’s look at the players that Mumbai Indians are likely to retain for the 2025 IPL season.

Possible Retention List Of Mumbai Indians For IPL 2025

Jasprit Bumrah

Arguably one of world’s best pacer around in the present, Jasprit Bumrah emerges as a clear retention choice for MI for the 2025 season. He has been the most vital cog in not just India but Mumbai Indians’ bowling lineup for the last few years. His precise accuracy and variety make him nearly unplayable in the slog overs, making him an invaluable asset to any bowling attack.

Hardik Pandya

Despite leading Mumbai Indians to an early exit during the IPL 2024 season, Pandya staged an impressive comeback in India’s triumphant T20 World Cup 2024 campaign in the USA and the Caribbean. After being handed the captaincy for the IPL 2024 season, Pandya too remains a no-brainer choice for retention.

Suryakumar Yadav

Team India T20Is captain and one of the world’s best batters in the shortest format of the game, Suryakumar yadav is also a key figure in MI’s lineup. In addition to his batting prowess, his captaincy experience at both international and domestic levels adds further value to the team, making him a must-have in the team.

Will Rohit Sharma Leave Mumbai Indians?

Despite there being no official confirmation from either Mumbai Indians or Rohit Sharma, rumours have been swirling about the possibility of Rohit leaving the MI setup ahead of the IPL 2025 season.

Notably, the five-time IPL winning captain with Mumbai Indians, Rohit was ousted from captaincy ahead of the IPL 2024 season and played under Hardik Pandya. This decision of MI's management drew a lot of criticism resulting in fans expressing their frustration on social media and even booing Hardik Pandya from Wankhede stands during MI’s matches.
