Hello and Welcome to our live coverage of Match number 72 of IPL 2023. It is the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) up against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in this game. The match is set to be played at the MA Chidambram Stadium in Chennai. STAY TUNED FOR ALL UPDATES!
Background
It's do-or-die. It's now or never. It's a knock out game in the Indian Premier League (IPL) Playoff set to be staged at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and it will be the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) taking on the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Eliminator.
While Krunal Pandya-led LSG finished third on the league stage, Rohit Sharma & Co. finished fourth on the table. In all sense, this game is much like the old school quarterfinal match where the winner will head into the semifinal match (read Qualifier 2) where Gujarat Titans (GT) await them after losing the Qualifier 1.
MI have never beaten LSG before. However, they don't have to look back too much for inspiration since it was only on Tuesday (May 23) that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) who had never beaten GT before got the better of them to seal a birth for themselves in the IPL 2023 final.
On the other hand, LSG might have a bit of a psychological advantage but they would be aware that when the actual action begins it would be the better team on the day that wins the game. If there is ever a team that personifies the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, it is this LSG whose leading run-scorer or wicket-taker may not feature in top 10 leading stats accumulator this season but still they find themselves in the Playoffs. It helps that they do not have a rich history like MI or CSK and that might mean a bit of a less pressure especially on a neutral venue.
MI, on the other hand, are the most successful side in the history of the competition with as many as five titles to their credit and would be eager to add one more title but that is far away given that they need to win two back-to-back matches to enter the summit clash.
All in all, it's looks set to be an exciting game at a venue which is not necessarily a high-scoring one but offers a greater contest between the bat and the ball.
