England speedster and former Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) star Jofra Archer is all set to miss the forthcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). While he was released by his franchise MI ahead of the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai on December 19 (Tuesday), it is now being reported that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is looking to manage his workload before the T20 World Cup next year and thus want him to stay him from the cash-rich league in India.
It is petinent to note that Archer remained away from professional cricket due to a recurring elbow injury. He last played a competitive match in May 2023 and even though he travelled to India with the England squad for the ODI World Cup 2023, he had to fly back home as he failed to recover in time.
Jofra Archer Featured In 5 Matches In IPL 2023
While MI had included him hoping that he could be more than useful for his side, he only featured in five matches in the season and weng for plenty. He did not pick up as many wickets as expected from a bowler of his stature as well with just two scalps in those matches. With not much cricket behind him and uncertainty over his participation in the next season of the IPL, MI thought it best to release him.
Earlier, Archer had been ruled out from the Ashes seris after a medical report had suggested a recurrence of the stress fracture on his right elbow. It was the sameinjury which had truncated Archer's stint at the IPL in the 2023 season. As far as the remaining English players are concerned, barring Ben Stokes and Joe Root, who have opted to pull out of the tournament, they have all been retained by their respective franchises while several others have registered themselves for the auction, hoping to get picked by a franchise in the bidding war.
