New Delhi: In the latest development for the Indian Premier League (IPL), the title sponsor Chinese mobile manufacturer VIVO has been replaced with homegrown business conglomerates Tata. This information was confirmed by IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel to news agency PTI.
IPL's governing council decided to replace the IPL title sponsors in a meeting convened on Tuesday. "Yes, Tata group is coming in as IPL title sponsor," IPL chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed the development to PTI.
Vivo had a deal of Rs 2200 crore for IPL title sponsorship rights from 2018-2022 but after the 2020 Galwan Valley military face-off between Indian and Chinese Army soldiers, the Chinese mobile brand took a break for a year with Dream11 replacing it. However, Vivo was back as IPL title sponsor in 2021.

IPL Governing Council is also set to decide today modalities of the IPL mega auction for the upcoming season. It is speculated, the IPL 2022 mega auction will take place in Bengaluru in the second week of February. IPL 2022 will also be bringing in two more new teams making the cash-rich tournament a 10-team affair.
Due to rising coronavirus cases and a new strain of omicron, a threat looms large over the 15th season's plausible venues and match dates. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to finalise the dates and venue for the mega auction.
