MI All-Time IPL Playing 11: Five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions and two-time Champions League winners, Mumbai Indians have consistently built their squads around a strong domestic core, complemented by quality overseas players. Mumbai Indians, alongside Chennai Super Kings, have been the most dominant force in the history of India’s cash-rich league. Both teams have lifted the IPL trophy five times, with MI becoming the first franchise to surpass three titles, breaking CSK’s record in 2019 when the Mumbai-based outfit won its fourth trophy.


Several players have been integral to Mumbai Indians' success over the years, making significant contributions to the franchise. With just over a month left for the IPL 2025 season, let's take a look at Mumbai Indians’ all-time best IPL 11.

1. Sachin Tendulkar


Sachin Tendulkar was the heart of Mumbai Indians since its inception in 2008, serving as an icon player, captain, and later a mentor. Playing for MI from 2008 to 2013, he scored 2,334 runs in 78 matches, including one century and 13 fifties, with an average of 34.48 and a strike rate of 119.81. He retired from the IPL after MI won their maiden title in 2013 under Rohit Sharma’s leadership.


2. Rohit Sharma (C)


Rohit Sharma began his IPL career with Deccan Chargers before joining Mumbai Indians in 2011. He took over as MI captain midway through IPL 2013 from Ricky Ponting and led the team to its maiden title. Under his leadership, MI won four more championships in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. Ahead of IPL 2024, he was replaced as captain by Hardik Pandya.  


With the bat, Rohit has been a key performer for MI, scoring 5,731 runs in 221 matches. He has registered two centuries and 36 fifties, with a highest score of 109* against Kolkata Knight Riders. Over the years, he has struck 521 fours and 245 sixes at a strike rate of 131.05.


3. Lendl Simmons


Lendl Simmons was a key top-order batter for Mumbai Indians from IPL 2014 to 2017. In 32 matches, he amassed 1,175 runs at an average of 40.51, including one century and 12 fifties, with a strike rate of 125.80. He also struck 123 fours and 45 sixes. Known for his aggressive starts, he played a crucial role in MI’s turnaround in IPL 2014, helping them reach the playoffs, and was the joint second-highest run-scorer in their title-winning 2015 campaign.


4. Suryakumar Yadav


Mumbai Indians' vice-captain, Suryakumar Yadav, has flourished with the franchise, earning his India debut in all formats and holding the No. 1 T20I batter ranking for two consecutive years.  


Since making his MI debut in 2012, SKY has scored 3033 runs in 98 matches at an average of 35.26 and a strike rate of 148.09, including a highest score of 103*, 23 fifties, 336 fours, and 110 sixes. 


5. Ambati Rayudu


Ambati Rayudu made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in 2010 and played a vital role for the franchise as a batsman, fielder, and occasional wicketkeeper. He won three IPL titles with MI (2013, 2015, 2017) before moving to Chennai Super Kings, where he ended his career on a high in 2023.  


In 136 matches for MI, Rayudu scored 2635 runs at an average of 24.39 and a strike rate of 123.36, with a highest score of 81* and 14 fifties. 


6. Hardik Pandya


Hardik Pandya, along with his brother Krunal Pandya, was scouted by the Mumbai Indians and made his IPL debut for the franchise in 2015. Over 106 matches, he scored 1692 runs at an impressive strike rate of 152.43 and an average of 25.63, with a highest score of 91. With the ball, Pandya contributed significantly, taking 53 wickets with a best of 3/20 and an economy rate of 9.40.  


A key figure in MI's middle order, Hardik formed a formidable finishing trio with Krunal and Kieron Pollard, often pulling off remarkable wins from difficult situations. His departure ahead of IPL 2022 was a major move, and he went on to lead Gujarat Titans to their maiden title. However, in IPL 2024, he returned to MI, taking over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma.


7. Kieron Pollard


West Indies batter Kieron Pollard made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in 2010 and remained with the franchise until his retirement in 2022. Following his playing career, he took on the role of MI’s batting coach. Pollard played a pivotal role in MI’s success, often rescuing the team from top-order collapses and finishing matches with remarkable consistency. Many of his innings are considered legendary in IPL history.  


Over 211 matches for MI, Pollard amassed 3915 runs at an average of 28.78 and an explosive strike rate of 147.01. He smashed 258 sixes and 250 fours, cementing his reputation as a game-changer. He also has 79 wickets to his name for the franchise.


8. Harbhajan Singh


Harbhajan Singh was a key player for MI from 2008 to 2017, winning three IPL titles (2013, 2015, 2017) before moving to Chennai Super Kings and later Kolkata Knight Riders.  


As MI’s lead spinner, Harbhajan took 147 wickets in 158 matches, with a best bowling figure of 5/18 and an economy of 6.96. He also contributed with the bat, scoring 947 runs at a strike rate of 141.34, with a highest score of 64


9. Lasith Malinga


Lasith Malinga made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in 2009 and played until 2019, becoming the tournament's highest wicket-taker at the time with 195 wickets in 139 matches. His best figures were 5/13, and he maintained an economy of 7.12.  


Beyond his bowling, Malinga played a crucial role in mentoring young pacers, especially Jasprit Bumrah. After retirement, he worked as Rajasthan Royals' bowling coach but returned to MI in IPL 2024 in the same role.


10. Trent Boult


Trent Boult played a crucial role for Mumbai Indians despite a short stint in the IPL. In 29 matches, he took 38 wickets with best figures of 4/18 and an economy of 7.94.  


His most significant impact came in MI’s title-winning IPL 2020 campaign, where he was named Player of the Match in the final.


11. Jasprit Bumrah


One of Mumbai Indians' greatest contributions to cricket has been scouting and nurturing Jasprit Bumrah, who has since become a key bowler for India. He made his IPL debut for MI in 2013 but truly made his mark in 2015 with his unique action and lethal yorkers. Under the mentorship of Shane Bond and Lasith Malinga, Bumrah evolved into a world-class pacer.  


A vital part of MI’s leadership group, Bumrah has taken 168 wickets in 136 IPL matches, with best figures of 5/10, an economy of 7.31, and an average of 22.61.
