Sanju Samson fined after RR vs GT, IPL 2024: Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals suffered their first loss in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season on Wednesday (April 10). In what turned out to be a last-over thriller at Jaipur's Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Rashid Khan hit a boundary on the final ball of the 20th over to seal a three-wicket win for GT.

Adding to team Rajasthan's woes, their skipper Sanju Samson was fined Rs 12 lakh by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for maintaining a slow over-rate during RR vs GT IPL 2024 match.

GT hand RR their first defeat in IPL 2024 season

One-time IPL winner Rajasthan Royals kicked off their IPL 2024 campaign on a strong note. Sanju Samson-led team won back-to-back four matches before facing their first defeat of the IPL 2024 season in a closely contested fixture against Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium.

Fiery fifties from Riyan Parag (76 runs) and Sanju Samson (68 not out) propelled Rajasthan Royals team to a commanding total of 196/3. Gujarat Titans' captain and opener Shubman Gill led the charge with an impressive 72. However, it was the partnership between Rahul Tewatia (22 off 11 balls) and Rashid Khan (24 off 11 balls) that ultimately sealed Gujarat's win on the last ball of RR vs GT IPL 2024 match.

This was Gujarat's 3rd win in IPL 2024. A win for Rajasthan over GT would have made them the first team in IPL history to win back-to-back five matches.

Sanju Samson fined for slow over rate

Captain Sanju Samson was fined for his team's slow over rate during RR vs GT IPL 2024 match on Wednesday. For the first time in IPL 2024, Rajasthan Royals (RR) have been fined for falling short of the minimum over rate stipulated in the Indian Premier League (IPL) code of conduct, eventually resulting in Sanju Samson receiving a hefty fine from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
