Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) appointed ODI World Cup-winning captain, Pat Cummins, to lead their team in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. The 30-year-old assumes SRH's captaincy role, succeeding Aiden Markram, who led the franchise in last year's IPL.

Cummins' appointment follows his recent success for his national team. The 30-year-old guided Australia to victory in both the World Test Championship and 2023 ODI World Cup, with both wins coming against Rohit Sharma-led India.

Cummins made headlines during the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction by securing a staggering price tag of Rs 20.50 crore.

The newly-appointed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain's previous stint in IPL was with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) from 2020 to 2022. Cummins will become Hyderabad's third captain in as many seasons.

Australian players have captained IPL sides to victory on three occasion. The trend began with Shane Warne, who guided the Rajasthan to victory in the inaugural season of IPL. Adam Gilchrist followed suit by leading Deccan Chargers to the 2009 IPL title. Subsequently, in 2016, David Warner achieved a significant milestone by captaining the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to their maiden IPL championship triumph.

Mitchell Starc, his compatriot, shattered the record for the highest price ever paid for a player in IPL history when he was purchased by the Kolkata Knight Riders for an astounding Rs 24.75 crore.

Sunrisers Hyderabad's campaign in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 will begin with a match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on March 23. Following this, Hyderabad will take on Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians in Hyderabad on March 27.
