Indian Premier League franchise Punjab Kings has been handed a bit of a setback as their player Raj Angad Bawa has been ruled of the competition. Bawa featured for Punjab in two matches last season but will not be able to play any role going forward in the the ongoing edition of the tournament due to a left shoulder injury.

The 2014 IPL finalist have also announced a replacement for Bawa as they have roped in Gurnoor Singh Brar for INR 20 lakh in place of Bawa. Gurnoor happens to be a left-handed batting all-rounder who made his first-class season not too long ago in the 2022-23 season for Punjab.

Even though he featured in just 5 matches, the promise he might have showed would have impressed the management making the call to get him into the squad. He has 1 half-century from 5 innings and 7 wickets from 8 innings in his first-class career so far.

Talking about Punjab's IPL 2023 campaign, the Shikhar Dhawan-led side have got off to a winning start this year as they handed the Kolkata Knight Riders in their first match of the season in what was a rain-curtailed contest.

They will now be up against Rajasthan Royals in their second match of the tournament which will be a home game for Rajasthan but will be staged at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Much like Punjab, Rajasthan too started off their season win which came against Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, while Punjab won by a narrow-margin of 7 runs (DLS method), Rajasthan's victory was more dominant as they beat the Orange Army by 72 runs and hence occoupy the second place at the points tally.
