Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) began their title defence on a positive note by defeating four-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 tournament opener on March 31 at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium. However, Gujarat's win over Chennai in IPL 2023 tournament opener came at a cost as their star player Kane Williamson sustained a knee injury in this match. Williamson landed badly on the field while attempting an almost impossible catch near the boundary rope.
In a huge setback for Gujarat fans, the injury ruled out Kane Williamson from the remainder of IPL 2023 and the Kiwi star will now be traveling home to New Zealand for further treatment. Gujarat Titans recently took to Twitter to post a picture of Kane Williamson, announcing about him being ruled out of the tournament.
However, before leaving the Gujarat Titans camp for home, Kane Williamson left a special message for his fans.
Gujarat Titans uploaded a video on Twitter featuring Kane and captioned the post, "A very special message to the Titans and Gujarat Titans family."
Williamson said in the video, “Just wanna wish the Gujarat Titans team all the best for the remainder of the season. Wish I could have been there with you all but not to be. And I also want to thank the fans for all their love support and I look forward to a speedy recovery. Thank you."
Kane Williamson made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut back in 2015 and since then has played a total of 77 matches so far in the world's richest tournament. Williamson has so far scored 2101 runs at an average of 36.22 with a strike rate of 126.03. In the 2018 edition of IPL, Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad made it to the final and in that very season, the Kiwi star was also the leading run-scorer.
