The Indian Premier League (IPL) has grown by leaps and bounds ever since the tournament began in 2008. While there were apprehesions about how the competition would be perceived and whether fans will be able to connect, certainly there are no such doubts now with the sixteenth edition of the competition nearings its end. With an exponential rise in the amount of money involved in the league, it is only obvious that the prize money has also increased. The team that won the IPL in the first two years was awarded Rs 4.8 crore. Similarly, the team that finished as the runners-up was awarded Rs 2.4 crore.
Even though the money was still a massive sum for any cricketing event at that time, after a number of years the situation has changed and so has the sum that will be awarded to the team that ends up as the winner or the runner-up. In IPL 2023, the team that will lift the trophy will get a whopping INR 20 crore. Meanwhile, the franchise that ends up the second best on the night of the final will bag INR 13 crore.
From what is being learnt so far, the BCCI is mulling to increase it even further in the forthcoming seasons but the exact figure is still not known. In addition, the team that finishes third (Mumbai Indians) will receive Rs 7 crore, followed by the fourth team (Lucknow Super Giants) earning Rs 6.5 crore.
Thus the team between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings that wins the summit clash on Sunday (May 28) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will bag the 20 crore paycheque and the losing side will get Rs 13 crore.
As far as Individual prizes are concerned, the batsman who scores the most runs in the tournament is honored with the Orange Cap and will receive a cash prize of Rs 15 lakh. Similarly, the Purple Cap is awarded to the bowler who takes the highest number of wickets and they will also receive the same amount.
The Emerging Player of the tournament is presented with a cash reward of Rs 20 lakh, while the Most Valuable Player of the season is granted prize money of Rs 12 lakh. Additionally, the Power Player of the Season, Super Striker of the Season, and Game Changer of the Season awards come with cash rewards of Rs 15 lakh and Rs 12 lakh respectively.
