The auction for the next season of the Indian Premier League is to be held in Kochi on December 23, according to a media report. This will be a mini-auction, unlike the regular mega-auction. The teams will have an additional amount of Rs 5 crore, apart from the money left in their purse from the previous auction and the value of the players they release, the report said.
After last year’s auction, Punjab Kings has the largest money left over--Rs 3.45 crore while Chennai Super Kings has Rs 2.95 crore in their purse. The list is followed by Royal Challengers Banglore with Rs 1.55 crore, Rajasthan Royal with Rs 95 lakhs, and Kolkata Knight Riders with an amount of Rs 45 lakhs.
Lucknow Super Giants had exhausted their entire purse in the last auction. Defending champions Gujarat Titans are left with Rs 15 lakhs while Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Capitals have Rs 10 lakh left with them.
The report suggests that Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants might be looking forward to filling their teams with an eighth and final overseas players as they had bought only seven overseas players in the 2022 auction. Six franchises also brought in injury replacements for last season and now they will have to decide whether to retain the replacement player or the original player or both if the player limit allows.
Gujarat Titans had clinched their first IPL title in their maiden IPL appearance while Rajasthan Royals finished second.
Earlier in February this year, a whopping amount of Rs 551.7 crores was spent in IPL auction to buy 204 players, out of maximum possible 217 slots. There were 107 cap players and 97 uncapped players. A total of 137 Indian players were purchased while 67 overseas players made it to the teams.
