IPL 2022: Former Zimbabwe cricketer Andy Flower could become the head coach of the new IPL franchise Lucknow. He resigned as assistant coach of Kings XI Punjab two weeks ago.

Flower is said to be at the forefront of the race to coach the Lucknow team. South Africa's Gary Kirsten, New Zealand's Daniel Vettori, and former Team India pacer Ashish Nehra are some other frontrunners for the post.

"We are in touch with some former players for the head coach but we cannot comment on it until things are confirmed," said a Lucknow team official.

Andy Flower took over as assistant coach in Kings XI Punjab before IPL 2020. For the past 2 years, he has been working closely with Punjab head coach Anil Kumble. This great player of Zimbabwe has previously played a pivotal role as the head coach in helping England win the title in the T20 World Cup held in 2010. During his time as head coach, England has been at no.1 position in Tests for a long time.

Along with Andy Flower, the discussion of KL Rahul of Kings XI Punjab joining the Lucknow team is also gaining momentum. Punjab has not retained him.

It is noteworthy that Sanjiv Goenka bought the Lucknow team for Rs 7090 crore. Along with Lucknow, the team of Ahmedabad will also join the next IPL. The mega auction of IPL is to be held in January.
