Delhi Capitals posted a challenging 157-8 total against Kings Eleven Punjab in the second game of the being played at the Dubai International Stadium. Marcus Stoinis helped Delhi stage a brilliant recovery after they looked in all sorts of trouble at 96-6 at one stage.
After Kings Eleven Punjab skipper KL Rahul won the toss and invited Delhi Capitals to bat first, DC got off to a nightmarish start as their prolific opener Shikhar Dhawan ran himself out for a duck as wicket keeper KL Rahul and Krishnappa Gowtham effected a brilliant run out in the second over.
Delhi Capitals were in complete tatters when KXIP seamer Mohammed Shami dismissed free flowing stroke-player Prithvi Shaw and Windies hard hitting batsman Shimron Hetmyer in the same over dealing a double blow. While Prithvi miscued a pull straight to Chris Jordan, Hetmyer scooped an easy catch to Mayank Agarwal off the bowling of Shami.
Reeling at 13 for 3, skipper Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant rebuild their innings by stitching a run 73-run partnership for the fourth wicket and got them past the 50-run mark in the eleventh over.
Leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi who made his IPL debut and Krishnappa Gowtham put a tight lid on Delhi's scoring rate by hardly giving them any room to free their arms. Bishnoi then was rewarded for his immaculate line as he had Rishabh Pant (31) drag on one of his deliveries onto his stumps.
Mohammed Shami came back for a second spell and struck immediately to send by the well settled Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer for 39. Sheldon Cottrel then had Delhi seven down when the Windies seamer had Axar Patel glove one to KL Rahul behind the stumps.
Marcus Stoinis provided the late flourish to Delhi Capitals innings towards the end of the innings with a quick fire half ton.
