GT vs MI, IPL 2023 Qualifier 2 HIGHLIGHTS: Gujarat Beat Mumbai To Set Up Final With Chennai
GT vs MI Highlights: Gujarat will now lock horns with Chennai in the final, courtesy of a 62-run win over Mumbai in Qualifier 2.
VICTORY FOR GT! They beat MI by 62 runs and the foundation was really set up by that hundred from Gill. But a fifer as well from Mohit Sharma. That then means GT will now take on CSK in the IPL 2023 final on Sunday (May 28).
GT on verge of a win and a place in the finals. With all the recognised batters back in the pavilion this is surely GT's win. MI- 158/7 in 15.3 Overs.
This had been an invaluable partnership for MI. Green and SKY had added a brisk fifty but Joshua Little has bowled Green. MI- 124/4 in 11.2 Overs.
Meanwhile it has also been confirmed that Kishan has sustained a concussion and has been replaced by Vishnu Vinod. Cameron Green is back in the middle after taking a blow to his hand.
Mumbai have lost the wickets of Rohit and Tilak Varma and latter's cameo worth 43 off 14 means MI are 72/3 after 6 overs.
WICKET!!! First over and the first wicket is down. Nehal Wadhera had walked out to bat with Rohit with Kishan taking a blow to his eye but has to walk back after nicking one to the keeper. It is Mohammed Shami who gets the wicket. MI- 5/1 in 0.5 overs.
END OF INNINGS! GT post 233/3. A six by Hardik Pandya to finish it off but the innings belonged to Gill. Sternous task ahead for the MI batters.
Rashid Khan and Hardik Pandya out in the middle for GT.
GT- 214/3 after 19 overs. Surely a mini-comeback of sorts from the position Gill left them in. Gujarat would be eyeing a minimum of 230. B Sai Sudharsan gets retired out.
200 up for GT in the 18th over. 14 balls remaining in the innings.
WICKET! Finally a breakthrough for MI. Madhwal gets rid of Gill who departs for 129 off 60. GT- 192/2 in 16.5 Overs.
GT: 183/1 after 16 overs. Sensational innings from Gill. Surely, 40-50 runs bare minimum from here. Things not looking good at all for MI.
15 overs gone, GT- 166/1.
HUNDRED! The third one of the season for Gill studded with 4 fours and 8 sixes and he is far from done.
What a show Shubman Gill is putting here in Ahmedabad. He is batting on 98 off 47. GT- 139/1 in 13 overs.
Sai Sudharsan has joined Gil in the middle and the latter is looking in sublime nick. He is approaching his half-century and has already surpassed Faf du Plessis to get the Orange Cap. After 9 overs, GT- 80/1.
WICKET!! And there's the first breakthrough and like so often in the tournament, it is Piyush Chawla who strike for the five-time champions. GT- 54/1 in 6.2 overs.
Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha help GT off to a decent start here. Jason Behrendorff, Cameron Green, Akash Madhwal the bowlers used by MI so far inside the powerplay. GT- 27/0 after 4 overs.
Toss News: MI has won the toss and chosen to bowl first.
BIG UPDATE: Toss set to happen at 07:45 pm (IST). Match will commence at 08. No deduction in the number of overs yet.
The good news though is that the covers are coming off.
Toss News: Toss has been delayed due to wet outfield.
Toss in just under an hour's time from now. Could be a crucial factor in this high-pressure game.
Hello and Welcome to our live coverage of the IPL 2023 Qualifier 2. Gujarat Titans (GT) will take on Mumbai Indians (MI) in this high-voltage fixture set to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The winner will play Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final while it will be the end of the road in this year's tournament for the team that loses this game. STAY TUNED FOR ALL UPDATES!
Background
Three teams still remain in contention for the Indian Premier League (IPL) title. While Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have already reached the finals, having beatean defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in Qualifier 1, GT still have a chance to enter the finals as they had topped the league stage. They will take on the Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2 to try and fight for a place in the final. However, it won't be that easy an affair.
While GT are coming on the back of a defeat, MI dominated the Eliminatior against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) winning the match by 81 runs to storm their way into this game. But given that the match will be played at Gujarat's home turf, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, it will be a slight advantage to the Hardik Pandya-led side.
Overall, the two teams have come against each othe three time. While GT have won just 1, MI have tasted two wins. Even though MI have a better reacord, the sample size is too small to draw any conclusion. MI will draw insipration from the fact that in their last match against Gujarat, earlier this season, it was the five-time champions who had beaten them and they would want to replicate a similar performance.
While MI seem to be peaking just at the right time, GT's strength is in being greater than the sum of its part. It would be interesting to see if Hardik is fit enough to roll his arms over. On the other hand, MI whose bowling had looked weak now looks better with the rise and rise of Akash Madhwal, fresh from a spell of 5/5.
All in all it looks set to be a mouth-watering game and with a place in IPL 2023 final at stake, each side would be willing to push themelves just that extra bit to reach the summit clash.
