New Delhi: There is some good news for the Delhi Capitals ahead of the second phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Shreyas Iyer, a middle order batsman in the Indian cricket team and the captain of of IPL Team Delhi Capitals, has been declared fit by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to resume playing matches and is all set to play in the second leg of the Indian Premier League starting September 19.

Iyer is all set to join Delhi Capitals once again. He was not part of the team in the first phase of IPL 2021 due to an injury. It was under his captaincy that the Delhi Capitals team had reached the finals in IPL 2020. Rishabh Pant captained the team in IPL 2021 after Iyer was injured.

IPL 2021 was postponed midway due to the detection of COVID-19 cases in it's bio-safe environment. Iyer, 26, has played 22 ODIs and 29 T20 Internationals for India so far.

He had a slipped shoulder during the March 23 ODI against England in Pune, after which he had to undergo an operation in the UK.
BCCI sources said, "Yes, the NCA has given the fitness certificate to Shreyas Iyer. He stayed at the NCA in Bengaluru for a week and his fitness was assessed a few days ago. After examining the medical and physical parameters, he is now ready to play matches."

Delhi Capitals Yet To Take Decision

However, Shreyas Iyer's return to cricket has forced the decisionmakers at Delhi Capitals to take some crucial decisions. They need to decide whether they would hand back the team's command to Shreyas Iyer, who led the team to the final in IPL 2020, or continue with Rishabh Pant, who captained brilliantly in the first phase of IPL 2021. Delhi Capitals are yet to take any decision in this regard.
