Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians suffered a big setback ahead of Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) IPL 2023 match on Tuesday (May 9). MI's star pacer Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the remaining matches of IPL 2023 due to fitness issues. As per the official statement released by the franchise, Jofra Archer will return to his country England and will be monitored by England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Along with this, Mumbai Indians also announced Chris Jordan as replacement for Archer.
"Chris Jordan will join the MI squad for the rest of the season. Chris replaces Jofra Archer, whose recovery and fitness continues to be monitored by ECB. Jofra will return home to focus on his rehabilitation," MI wrote in a post on Twitter.
Mumbai Indians acquired Chris Jordan reportedly for Rs 2 crore. Jordan was part of the Chennai Super Kings last season. He is considered a yorker specialist and for his lethal bowling in the death overs.
Jordan made his IPL debut in 2016 and has so far played 28 matches, taking 27 wickets to his name. Apart from IPL, the death overs specialist has played 87 T20Is for England during which he bagged 96 wickets.
Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 truned out to be an ordinary season for Jofra Archer. The England star was forced to miss many MI games due to fitness issues. He played only four matches for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023 and picked just two wickets at an economy rate of 10.38.
