The Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) chairman, Arun Singh Dhumal, has reportedly announced that the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is IPL 2024, will be held in India inspite of the country having its General Elections during that very particular time frame. Arun Singh Dhumal also stated that the apex institution for cricket in India is working with the Indian Government to figure out a specific schedule in order to make sure the smooth proceedings of the IPL, as well as Lok Sabha Elections.
As reported by IANS on February 14, the BCCI Chairman also cleared some air about the exact dates of commencement and end of the world's richest cricket league, which has alredy been rumoured and speculated to start from March 22, as per various reports.
"We will work with the Indian government, agencies to make sure that the league takes place in India. We are waiting for the schedule of the general election to be announced and then we will plan accordingly...like which state will host what game at the time of election will be planned that way. It (IPL) will most likely start from March end... and general elections are in April, so we will work it out with the help of the government," said Arun Singh Dhumal, as reported by IANS.
IPL 2024 To Follow The Similar 74-Match Schedule
As 10 teams are participating, it was anticipated that the IPL might finally see an 18-games-per-side league phase that grants each side a fair and equal chance at qualification. However, the cricketing fans might have to wait atleast another year for this to happen as IPL will be sticking to its 14-games-per-side format. Chennai Spuer Kings are currently the reigning champions of the league and are tied with the most titles alongside Mumbai Indians (each side holds 5 titles), followed by Kolkata Knight Riders, who have two to their name.
