IPL 2022 auctioneer Hugh Edmeades received a heart-warming standing ovation as he entered the room to conduct the final stage of the auction.
New Delhi: Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auctioneer Hugh Edmeades, who had collapsed on the stage mid-event due to Postural Hypotension, returned to conduct the final stage of the auction.
The 62-year-old received a heart-warming standing ovation as he entered the auction room. Earlier, in a very unfortunate incident, the opening Day's proceedings had come to a halt after Hugh collapsed on stage when bidding for Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga was going on.
"How heartening it is to see Mr. Hugh Edmeade - the IPL Auctioneer - back on the podium! A round of applause for Mr. Charu Sharma, who took over the Auction proceedings in the absence of Mr. Hugh Edmeade," IPL wrote in the caption of a video it posted via its official handle on Twitter.

Day 1's auction was halted and early lunch was taken when Hugh had fainted. News agency PTI had quoted an IPL source as saying that he was immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention.

IPL, shortly after the incident, informed that Hugh will be replaced by cricket presenter Charu Sharma to continue the auction proceedings.
The mega auction of IPL 2022, which lasted for two days at Hotel ITC Gardenia in Bangalore, is finally over. A total of 204 players were sold in the mega auction. Of these, 137 were Indian and 67 foreign players. All the 10 franchises of IPL had entered the auction with 561 crores. A total of Rs 549.70 crore were shelled out by the franchises. A total of 108 players were paid a salary of more than 1 crore. 11 players secured a salary of more than 10 crores.
