Pujara, tagged as a Test specialist, could not play in the Indian Premier League for the last seven years. The star batsman last played in the T20 League for Kings XI Punjab in 2014. He was then acquired by the franchise for his base price.

In that season, Pujara scored 390 runs for Punjab at an average of 20.53 and a good strike rate of 99.74. Unfortunately, Pujara, since then, remained unsold during every IPL auction.

Finally, the classy batsman now has a chance to mark his return in IPL after MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings acquired him for his base price of INR 50 lakhs.

After Pujara was bought by CSK, other franchise members present in the auction filled the room with applause.

Pujara is currently preparing for the day-night Test against England, set to take place from January 24 for which Team India will leave for Ahmedabad from Chennai today. The India vs England third Test match will be played at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Montera.

Around 1100 players had registered themselves for the IPL 2021, but only 292 players got a place in the final list. Also, out of these 292 players, 227 are uncapped and 65 are capped players.
