New Delhi: The upcoming auction for the 2020 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will take place on December 19, in Kolkata for the first time. The registration closed on 30th November with 971 players (713 Indian and 258 overseas players) signing up to be a part of the player auction for the 12th edition of the cash-rich tournament.

A total number of 971 cricketers - 713 Indians and 258 foreign - will be available to fill up the 73 available spots across eight teams. The eight franchises have time until 9th December to submit their shortlist of players that will make up the final auction list.

Aussie fast bowler Mitchell Starc has made himself unavailable for this season. KKR had bought Starc in 2019 IPL auction but the speedster didn't play any game due to injury. WC 2019 winner, team England Test skipper Joe Root is another foreign player, who has decided to opt out of IPL 2020. The star batsman has not yet participated in any of the seasons of the tournament so far.

Australia hard-hitting batsmen and explosive T20 players, Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch are likely to take part in this year's auction. The duo had made themselves unavailable last year for IPL 2019 auction.

Base price: Rs 1.5 crore

Robin Uthappa, Shaun Marsh, Kane Richardson, Eoin Morgan, Jason Roy, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Chris Morris, Kyle Abbott

Base price: Rs 2 crore

Pat Cummins, Josh Hazelwood, Chris Lynn, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Dale Steyn, Angelo Mathews
