New Delhi: Cyberabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar, the man behind the encounter of the four accused in the brutal Hyderabad vet rape and murder case, is being hailed by people for delivering an ‘instant justice’ in the case, which had the country protesting since ten days.

All the four accused in the brutal gang rape and murder of a young veterinarian were gunned down by the police early Friday near Shadnagar town, about 50 km from Hyderabad.

However, it is not the first time Sajjanar has delivered justice in his own way in a women-related crime. In December 2008, under him, the Andhra Pradesh Police had killed all three accused in an acid attack case.

Here are ten things to know about Sajjanar:

  • Warangal encounter: While he was serving as the Superintendent of Warangal district in undivided Andhra Pradesh, the police had killed all three accused in an acid attack on two girl students in Warangal, on December 12, 2008.The official had then claimed that the accused S. Srinvas Rao, Potharaju Harikrishna and B. Sanjay were killed when they attacked policemen while trying to escape. Though police had claimed that it opened fire in self-defence, it was believed that it acted to quell the public outrage triggered by the crime.

  • Sajjanar, an official of the rank of Inspector General of Police, took over as the Commissioner of Cyberabad in March 2018.

  • Sajjanar, who earlier held key positions in undivided Andhra Pradesh and subsequently in Telangana, was also believed to be instrumental in killing of Maoists in encounter.

  • Before stepping as the Cyberabad Police Commissioner,Sajjanar has served as IG of special intelligence branch and the DIG of the same branch.

  • He had started his career in Jangaaon in Warangal district, as assistant superintendent of police.

  • Before intelligence wing, Sajjanar served as SP in OCTOPUS and economic offences wing.

  • He hails originally from Karnataka’s Hubbali. He was born in Pagadi Oni, in Hubbali.

  • He received his primary and high school education from Lions School, Hubbali. He studied commerce at JG College of Commerce and completed his MBA from Kausali Institute is Management studies of Karnatak University.

  • His father C B Sajjanar was tax consultant and a social activist.

  • Sajjanar is known for paying special attention towards women and child safety, along with community policing, cyber crime and human trafficking .
