New Delhi: Ex-India skipper Ashish Nehra can be the head coach of Ahmedabad IPL team, PTI reported. Ahmedabad is one of the two franchises that have been added to the IPL 2022.

There will be an auction before IPL 2022, in which all IP teams will be bidding for players. According to PTI, Ahmedabad franchise will give Nehra the big responsibility for the upcoming season of IPL. However, there is no official confirmation about this yet.

World Cup-winning former India coach Gary Kirsten will be the 'Mentor' of the franchise, the PTI report stated.

Former England cricketer Vikram Solanki will be hired as the batting coach as well as the director. Till now no official announcement has been made related to any of the details mentioned above.

"As far as I have heard, they have signed Ashish as their head coach and someone who would be in overall charge of the franchise. Solanki will be the 'Director of Cricket' and also expected to double up as batting coach and Kirsten will be in a mentorship role," a senior IPL source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

"The Ahmedabad franchise can't announce it formally as it is a BCCI diktat and they can only make a formal announcement after they get the LOI. The head honchos of Ahmedabad franchise has already interviewed the trio and short-listed them for the season," the source said.

Ahmedabad is one of the two new teams added to the IPL. The franchise has been bought by CVC Capital for 5625 crores.

Team India's legendary bowler Ashish Nehra played his farewell match against New Zealand in the year 2017. He has taken 34 wickets in 27 T20 International matches for India.
