IPL 2021, RCB vs MI: Harshal Patel Takes Four As Bangalore Thump Mumbai To Register Their First Win Of UAE Leg
Just when Mumbai Indians started showing signs of revival, a stunning hat-trick from young Harshal Patel totally killed the game for them.
New Delhi: After solid fifties from skipper Virat Kohli (51) and Glenn Maxwell (56), spinners Harshal Patel (17 for 4) and Yuzvendra Chahal (11 for 3) bowled a magical spell to help Royal Challengers Bangalore beat defending champions Mumbai Indians by 54 runs at Abu Dhabi and end their losing streak in UAE which was seven back-to-back loses before today's game.
The game won by RCB bowlers is special in many ways as this is the first time Bangalore bowled out Mumbai in history of IPL. Last time, Mumbai had lost back-to-back three IPL games was in the year 2018.
Chasing 166 for the win, Mumbai started off well but after Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan's departure, the Blue Brigade choked and could never pull themselves back into the match. Just when Mumbai started showing signs of revival, a stunning hat-trick from young Harshal Patel totally killed the game for them.
Earlier, Mumbai won the toss and invited Bangalore to bat. Once again, after getting off to a dream start, Royal Challengers Bangalore failed to finish big. RCB opener Devdutt Padikal got out cheaply, but skipper Virat Kohli and Bharat stitched a solid 68-run partnership for second wicket to put their team on top.
After Virat's dismissal, all-rounder Glenn Maxwell kept the scoreboard ticking and scored a fifty too but once he got out, none of the Bangalore batsmen could get a grip over the innings and their team yet again sored a decent but below par total- 165/6. For Mumbai, Jasprit Bumrah (3 for 36) and Trent Boult (1 for 17) were the pick of bowlers. Rahul Chahar and Adam Milne bagged a wicket apiece.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli created history in the RCB vs MI match as he became the first Indian batsman to complete 10,000 runs in T20 cricket. The Indian skipper is only the fifth batsman to do so in the cricketing world.
