New Delhi: After a heart-breaking defeat against table-toppers Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson has suffered yet another blow. The star batsman has been fined heavily for maintaining slow over rate during RR vs DC match. This is the second time in a row in this season that Sanju has been fined for the same reason, which also meant the batsman was slapped with maximum over rate offence. 


Earlier, against Punjab Kings also Rajasthan Royals did not complete the quota of overs in a given time and Sanju Samson was fined. Now, Samson has been fined Rs 24 lakh for slow over rate during Rajasthan's match against Delhi Capitals. 


“The Rajasthan Royals have been fined after they maintained a slow over rate during their VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Delhi Capitals at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi on September 25,” BCCI said. 


“As it was the team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was fined ₹24 lakhs,” the release added.


Talking about the match,  despite Sanju Samson scoring an unbeaten 70 off 53 balls, Rajasthan Royals suffered a 33-run defeat against Delhi Capitals.  With this win, Delhi, 16 points from 10 matches, have jumped to top spot in Points Table and closer to securing a place in the playoffs. Rajasthan, with eight points from nine matches, have slipped to sixth position.


Delhi restricted Rajasthan Royals to 121/6 in 20 overs after scoring 154/6 on the back of Shreyas Iyer's 43 and Shimron Hetmyer's quick-fire 28.
