New Delhi: Team India has suffered a major setback before flying to South Africa. Rohit Sharma, who was recently appointed as the captain of ODI team, has been ruled out of the three-match Test series against South Africa. Priyank Panchal has replaced the veteran batsman in team India's 18-member squad.
Test vice-captain Rohit has been ruled out of the series due to a left hamstring injury. The senior opener got injured during a practice session in Mumbai.
India has to play a three-match Test series on South Africa tour, starting with a Boxing Day Test on 26th December. The Indian contingent is currently under a three-day quarantine and will leave for South Africa on 16th December.
"Priyank Panchal replaces injured Rohit Sharma in India's Test squad. Rohit sustained a left hamstring injury during his training session here in Mumbai yesterday. He has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match Test series against South Africa," BCCI tweet stated.
After Rohit's exit from the Test series, Priyank Panchal has been included in the team in his place. Panchal was recently the captain of India A, under whose captaincy the team played a three-match series.
The 31-year-old has not played a single international game for India but has good experience when it comes to Test cricket. He has scored 7011 runs in 100 first class matches at an average of 46. After Rohit's exit, who will now be the vice-captain of the Indian team, is not yet decided.
