RIO DE JANEIRO: After early morning celebrations, Indian party was well and truly ruined with the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) on Friday slapping a four- year ban on wrestler Narsingh Yadav.
In the after news were circulated among Indian media here that Narsingh has been given a clean chit and he will be playing tomorrow.
This wrong information rumour was effectively planted from Delhi saying that WADA has cleared the wrestler and that has weighed-in for the bout (which was correct)
However in the excitement, it was forgotten that WADA had washed off its hands after taking the issue to CAS against the acquittal of Narsingh by the National Anti -Doping Agency (NDA).
The CAS upheld the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) appeal, which had questioned the clearance, and slapped a four-year suspension on Narsingh Yadav, starting today.
The CAS further ruled that "all competitive results obtained by Narsingh from and including 25 June 2016 shall be disqualified, with all resulting consequences (including forfeiture of medals, points and prizes)."
Narsingh had tested positive for methandionene, a banned substance, on July 23 and was provisionally suspended. However, he was cleared by a NADA disciplinary panel on August 2, after they accepted Narsingh's 'sabotage theory' - where he claimed his food had been spiked with illegal substances - and exonerated him from all charges.
The CAS panel, though, noted that "there was no evidence that he bore no fault, nor that the anti-doping rule violation was not intentional", thereby imposing the standard four-year period of ineligibility.
