New Delhi: Team India had high hopes from wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant in the second innings of Ind vs SA Johannesburg Test, but the way he lost his wicket was a big disappointment for the fans and his team. India has lost quick wickets after Pujara-Rahane's steady stand and the team expected experienced batter Rishabh Pant to play a sensible innings, add valuable runs to extend India's lead.
Sadly, the Delhi Capitals batter lost his wicket by playing an irresponsible shot and was dismissed for a duck off Kagiso Rabada's delivery. Cricketer-turned-commentator Sunil Gavaskar was unhappy seeing Pant playing such an irresponsible shot.
Gavaskar, who was doing commentary at that moment, said that Pant should have respected the bowler and played responsibly.
“You had two news batsmen at the crease and then you saw that shot from Rishabh Pant. Forgettable, no excuses for that shot. None of that nonsense that it’s his natural game. There is supposed to be a bit of responsibility shown because there are others taking the blows. There are guys like Rahane who have taken the blow, guys like Pujara who have taken it on their body. So you also fight it out,” Gavaskar said on air.
Former Australia spinner Brad Hogg tweeted to express his disappointment with the manner in which Rishabh Pant was dismissed.
Talking about Ind vs SA 2nd Test, Team India has set a 240-run target for South Africa in Johannesburg. India were bundled up after scoring 266 runs in their second innings. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, playing for their careers, scored brilliant half-centuries.
