Former team India skipper Sunil Gavaskar, on Saturday, celebrated the 50th anniversary of his Test debut for Indian cricket team. On this day, in 1971 legendary India opener Sunil Gavaskar made his debut against heavyweights West Indies on March 6, 1971, in Port of Spain, Trinidad and stunned the world with his performance.
In his debut Test series, Gavaskar had scored 774 runs in four Test matches at an average of 154.80. No Indian cricketer till date has managed to equal or break his record.

Gavaskar, who was the first batsman in Test cricket to score 10,000 runs, marked his Test debut anniversary by joining Instagram. Sunil Gavaskar's son Rohan Gavaskar announced the news on Twitter.
In his first post on Instagram, Gavaskar posted a photo of himself and wrote "Hello Instagram. I think I'm ready for another debut... #SMG10K"
The BCCI also felicitated Sunil Gavaskar at Motera and thanked him for his valuable contribution to Indian cricket. Over his cricketing career, Gavaskar attained many elusive feats and established himself as one of the best ever Test batsman to ever play the game of cricket.
