Mumbai: Actress Taapsee Pannu has finally opened up about the recent raid conducted by the Income Tax raid over alleged discrepancies in the amount floating around B-town transactions especially pertaining to Phantom Films.
The actress took to Twitter and wrote, "3 days of intense search of 3 things primarily: 1. The keys of the “alleged” bungalow that I apparently own in Paris. Because summer holidays are around the corner; 2. The “alleged” receipt worth 5 crores to frame n keep for future pitching coz I’ve been refused that money before".
"3. My memory of the 2013 raid that happened with me according to our honourable finance minister, P.S- “not so sasti” anymore," she added.
The Income Tax raids at the properties of filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and Taapsee Pannu besides others had garnered responses from opposition parties questioning the move as they alleged that the central government is trying to silence voices of celebrities who have been vocally critical of the BJP-led NDA government and had also spoken in support of farmers.
Responding to the accusation, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said that similar raids were conducted on the people linked with Bollywood during the Congress-led UPA regime in 2013.
“I will not mention any case and neither name anyone but questions are raised when such steps are initiated during the tenure of our government. When such steps were initiated against them (Bollywood) in 2013 then why no questions were put up?” Nirmala Sitharaman asked.
“Isn’t this double standards? Should we not get to the bottom of the matter to find out whether something wrong is taking place or just questions must be raised since the raids were carried out during the tenure of our government?” she added.
Earlier on Thursday, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) in a statement revealed that they have found tax implications of about Rs 350 crore, adding further investigation is underway in the matter.
