The Indian cricket team has suffered a major setback ahead of India vs England second ODI against England. Star batsman Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the ODI series as well as the entire IPL 2021, due to a shoulder injury.

The 26-year-old dislocated his left shoulder during Ind vs Eng 1st ODI.

How Shreyas Iyer got injured?

The incident took place in the eighth over of England's innings when Shreyas dived on a drive hit by Jonny Bairstow off pacer Shardul Thakur's delivery. After completing the dive, Iyer looked in great pain and eventually walked out of the ground holding his shoulder.

"He will have to go under the knife. So, it looks not just the first part of IPL but Iyer will miss the entire IPL. It might take a minimum four months before he can hit the nets again. He has been under severe pain," the BCCI source told PTI.

Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer had led his team to the finals in last year's IPL. In his absence, the captaincy of Delhi Capitals could be handed over to Rishabh Pant, Australia's Steve Smith or senior off-spinner R Ashwin.

Apart from Iyer, veteran opener Rohit Sharma will also most likely won't take part in the next match.

While batting, England fast bowler Mark Wood's 148-km speed ball had hit Rohit's elbow, after which he felt a bit uncomfortable.
