It seemed India would hardly manage to put 200 on board, but Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja batted exceptionally well with Pant scoring his 4th ton against England.

India scored 338 runs in 73 overs for the loss of 7 wickets on Day 1. This was the first time since 1990 that India scored more than 330 runs on the first day of a Test match in England.
