New Delhi: After getting ruled out of the three-match T20I series against West Indies following a knee injury, team India explosive opener Shikhar Dhawan will reportedly miss the upcoming ODI series against the same opposition as he has failed to recover from the injury he sustained in Delhi’s Syed Mushtaq Ali game against Maharashtra. After completing the T20I series, India will play their first ODI against Windies on December 15.

BCCI’s press release prior to IND vs WI 2019 series read, “The BCCI Medical Team assessed him to review the healing of his wound. The BCCI Medical Team has suggested that Dhawan needs some more time for his stitches to come off and his wound to heal completely.”

According to a report in Bangalore Mirror, the star southpaw will be ruled out of the 50-overs series. The Indian team management will not risk their star opener ahead of IPL 2020 as senior batsman Dhawan would be an important part of team India's squad in T20I World Cup next year in Australia.

Earlier, the BCCI announced Dhawan being replaced by Sanju Samson - who is yet to represent India - in India's T20I squad. The reports also claim that Sanju Samson's name would be again announced as the replacement for injured Dhawan in the ODI squad and in-form young batsman KL Rahul will again play his part as an opener with deputy skipper Rohit Sharma.

Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal, who have performed remarkably well in the domestic circuit are the other options BCCI have.
